About the projects
Splinks has been the main vehicle for my compositions in the field of modern jazz (in a broad interpretation of course) from 1983 till 1999. It started as a quartet and grew bigger until the culmination point as a 13-piece ensemble.
The present recordings (the CD 'Splinks', Kontrans 739, released in 1993) were done at an intermediate stage, in a septet format.
The CD features compositions dating from the years 1979 to 1991.
The musicians are either Dutch or at the time resident in the Netherlands."
Angelo Verploegen - trumpet, fluegelhorn, voice
Dieter Kuhlmann - trombone
Bart van der Putten - alto saxophone
Jaap Blonk - voice, alto & tenor saxophones
Lorand Sarna - electric & acoustic guitars
Jacko Schoonderwoerd - bass
Panc Daalder - drums, percussion
BRAAXTAAL worked along the lines of a rock band: rehearsals had the form of improvising with a simple idea (musical line, rhythm, text) and working towards a more or less defined form. So, hardly any notes of music were used here.
The trio was founded in 1987 and existed until 2005. We played in many European countries and did one North American tour.
All three musicians are Dutch.
The present recordings are from the first CD of the trio ('BRAAXTAAL', Kontrans 939, released in 1993)."
Jaap Blonk - voice, alto saxophone
Rob Daenen - synthesizer
Theo Bodewes - drums, percussion
"Kontrans is my own label, operating within the non-profit foundation of the same name. Distribution through ToonDist (http://www.toondist.nl)."
